Studio decor: meet merlin

I’m slowly settling into the studio and things are constantly changing. I recently bought three shades of gray paint to test out on the walls and am waiting for a rumored sale before I buy a few gallons to finally paint the walls.

In the meantime, I just finished assembling Merlin the unicorn. He’s a lasercut cardboard puzzle made by Cardboard Safari right here in Charlottesville. He came flat-packed in eight sheets of cardboard; I just had to punch them out, sort the notched pieces & fit them together. The best part: no glue required. Happy to have a clean studio-mate!

So like many east-coasters, we were snowed in yesterday. The power flickered on-and-off throughout the day, but the studio was offline the entire day. I quickly remembered just how much of my design & business depends on the internet: e-mailing clients, browsing for inspiring images, downloading new fonts & software. After a couple hours of checking for a wireless connection and restarting the modem, I gave up and made these liners instead. And because I just made liners all day yesterday, we’re giving away a set of 10 envelopes (with these liners) to one luck winner! Just leave us a comment below about your favorite snow-day activity and we’ll pick a random winner tomorrow at 3pm!

Save-the-date timeline

I had the pleasure of working with Maya on save-the-date cards a few weeks ago. She and her fiance Bryan were looking for something romantic but modern for their upcoming summer wedding. She wanted to create a timeline of important moments in their lives as a couple: they meet, they kiss, they love…

And I just love the copy she came up with: “they set a date, please save it.”
